  • Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (IANS) A monsoon is expected in Odisha before the Raj this time.  As monsoon is active in Kerala, meteorologists predict that it will reach Odisha on time.  The Indian Meteorological Department has not yet given a clear indication that the monsoon is expected to reach June 11.

However, such clear information will be given in the next three to four days, said HR Biswas, director of the Regional Meteorological Center.  If all goes well, it will reach Odisha on June 11 and extend to the entire state by June 16.  The monsoon reached Kerala on June 7, 2016, Odisha on June 21, Kerala on May 26, 2016, Odisha on June 6, Kerala on May 30, 2017 and the southwest monsoon on June 19 in Odisha.
 However, there is a possibility of thunderstorms in all districts of Odisha for the next 24 hours.  Heavy rains are expected in Kalahandi, Bargarh, Sonpur, Devgarh, Mayurbhanj and parts of Balasore district.  In addition, Keraput, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Balangir, Anugul, Devgarh Sundergarh, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Bhadrak districts are likely to receive winds of 70 to 50 kmph with showers.  A trough line has been set up from Bihar to Chhattisgarh, causing torrential rains.  There was no such rain on the 5th and 8th.  It will rain in most parts of North Odisha and some districts of South Odisha on the 9th and 9th.
